LIVONIA ROTARY PARTICIPATES IN CHRISTMAS PARADE

story thumbnail
The Livonia Rotary Club was proud to participate in the Livonia Tree Lighting and the first in many years on Sunday, December 3rd., Christmas Parade in the Heart of Livonia.   In addition to over 2,000 participants in the Parade (60-plus local units of all sorts), the estimates given to Ted Davis and Mayor Dennis Wight were 5,000-10,000 people along the 1,1 mile Parade route, 80% within the closest blocks to the Civic Center.  The Parade began on time at 4 p.m., with a 3 p.m. staging at Frost Middle School.  The estimate may be closer to 8,000-9,000.  With great weather, the Parade was enthusiastically-received.  Everyone loves a parade.

MEET PRESIDENT LAURA PERLOWSKI

Livonia resident Laura Perlowski has an exciting year in front of her. Laura has recently been installed as the president of the Rotary Club of Livonia. After a 43 year career at the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit, Laura retired last year having last held the position as District Vice President. Working for a non-profit  all of her adult life, Laura knows the value of volunteerism. She will now focus her energies on leading the Livonia Rotary Club with a set of aggressive goals. The Club, established in 1945 is a fellowship of nearly 40 members from local businesses and educational institutions who combine their talents and resources “to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise.” Keeping with this vision, under her leadership the Club will continue to support popular projects like Kids Against Hunger, Forgotton Harvest, ELVES which is a volunteer program teaching reading skills to children, and orchestrating one of the largest Easter Egg Hunts in the area with 800 children, and their parents attending the annual event.

Our golfers represented the club well, scoring under par. In addition, Dick McDowell won the chipping contest for the second year. Concerns about storms were unnecessary since they woke us up at 3:15 AM on Friday.
